Castle Rushen High School

Care, Quality, Opportunity

Our Geography department, under the expert leadership of Subject Team Leader Emma Metcalfe, has again been awarded the prestigious Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM) by the Geographical Association (GA). What's even more remarkable is that CRHS is one of only nine schools in all of Great Britain to achieve Centre of Excellence status in addition to the SGQM.

The SGQM, awarded by the Geographical Association, is a prestigious recognition that celebrates excellence in geography leadership, curriculum development, and teaching and learning practices within schools. It is highly regarded both nationally and internationally. The Centre of Excellence status further highlights CRHS as a leader in geographical education. Our Geography department's achievement not only meets but exceeds the rigorous standards set by the Geographical Association.

To attain this recognition, the Geography department had to critically assess how they met each SGQM criterion and provide substantial evidence to support their claims. This process was demanding and required an unwavering commitment to excellence. The GA's feedback, which stated, "Overall, this was a fantastic submission and we are delighted to again award you with the SGQM and Centre of Excellence award," reaffirms the exceptional work of our staff.

The Geography department's achievement is a testament to CRHS's dedication to providing a first class education. Our students benefit from an innovative curriculum and outstanding teachers who prepare them for success in a globalised world. This recognition underscores our commitment to excellence in education and the high standards we set for ourselves.
