This year's Holocaust Memorial Day marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration camp complex. Head students Louis and Sam represented CRHS at the National Holocaust Memorial service held at The Cathedral Church of St Mary of the Isle yesterday, Sunday 26th January.
The students performed readings and lit a candle in memory of those affected by Nazi persecution, in particular the 6 million Jews who were murdered.
This year, the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust theme is “For a Better Future”, urging us all to reflect on the Holocaust and its impact, to make a better future for everyone and prevent anything like the Holocaust from happening again.
What can you do?
- Learn about the Holocaust and why innocent people were wrongfully murdered.
- Speak up if you hear any racism or discrimination.
- Respect each other.
- Encourage others to make the world a better, more friendly place to live in for everyone.
