Castle Rushen High School

Care, Quality, Opportunity

Dear Parents and Carers

As you are hopefully aware, we are returning to an island-wide lockdown on Thursday 7th January at 12.01am due to the current situation in regards to Covid-19. School is open as normal today (Wednesday 6th January) but attendance is not compulsory. There is no need to contact school if your child is absent today, this will not be recorded on their attendance and the Minister has recommended that you stay at home if possible. At the moment school will not be reopening until Wednesday 27th January, we will of course be in touch if the situation changes.

Our staff have prepared for this situation and your child will have had opportunities in school to practise logging in to our remote learning resources and been shown how this works. I wrote to you all at the end of last term with advice and included an additional document specifically for parents, which can be found below for your reference. The weekly student/parent learning newsletter will recommence asap, please watch this space for further updates and advice, we envisaged this as a way of helping parents talk to their children about their online learning. One change from the previous lockdown experience is the requirement for each student to register their remote attendance before 1pm each day, this will be via an online form - https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=fmT_Ct4QsU6Q6dBXie8sAmIJks75PJtJtWbF9U5FRgxUQUlKQTBBMkRSWVVZRVBFVUJaS05BMzVJMi4u. The link will be available on our school website and on itslearning. Please ensure your child does this for us as we will be following-up those that don’t register or those that ask for extra support. Details of how students login can be found in the document below.

For those students due to sit BTEC external exams over the next few days we will update them and their parents separately.

Remembering that the government advice is to stay safe and stay at home, please note that the CRHS Hub will continue to be open only for children whose parents are classed as KEY WORKERS and those that are vulnerable. This limited Hub provision is there to allow key workers to continue their efforts in keeping us all safe.

Please help us to plan for this 3 week lockdown by letting us know via CRHSenquiries@sch.im or our main reception 693500 if you are classified as a key worker and will be sending your child to the CRHS Hub. We do of course understand that shifts change and emergencies happen so we will never turn away a Key Worker child if you are called in to work, although any advance warning you can give us would be appreciated. Likewise we will do our best to help any parent or student who contacts us through the same email or main school number.

The island has pulled together before and been successful in overcoming this situation, I’m sure that we will again. Please stay safe and let’s take care of each other.

Best regards
Mr K Winstanley
Headteacher
