Castle Rushen High School

TUTORIAL SYSTEM

Castle Rushen High School runs a tutorial system in which each student has a Form Tutor who plays a central role in her/his care and development. Form Tutors know their students well and take a practical interest in their progress by monitoring attendance, punctuality, appearance, homework, progress against targets and wellbeing.

Tutors communicate with parents via student planners; at parental consultations; and at other times on request from student, parent or teacher. If you need to contact your child’s form tutor, telephone the school and leave a message but remember that they will have a full teaching commitment and may not be able to respond to you the same day. They will do their best to return a call as quickly as possible. It is very helpful if you can inform reception of your child’s name, form and form tutor as well as the subject of your call. This will ensure that information is passed to the right tutor, or to a different member of staff if appropriate.

Tutor groups typically have three tutorial periods and two assemblies per week. There is a formal tutorial programme that provides opportunities for students to develop their personal and social skills. Assemblies and tutor periods provide daily opportunities for personal challenge, spiritual, social and mental stimulation, and the exchange of important information. Students all have regular opportunities to contribute to the leading of assemblies and tutorial tasks/activities.

Tutor groups are currently arranged by Year Group. Each student is also a member of one of our four Houses which comprise the well established House System
