Our Year 8 Geography students have participated in a competition to design inspirational flags 'in the interests of all mankind' for the Antarctic, which does not have its own flag.

We have just received the news that the winning designs travelled all the way to Antarctica where they were photographed by marine biologist, Pati Glaz, who 'over-wintered' at Rothera Research station. During the winter season the Antarctic is in darkness for 24 hours per day!

Congratulations to Ella, Reece, Bella, Holly, Spencer and Josh who used their 'Hands' or their drawing skills to create their winning designs.

At CRHS, we have adopted the 'Head, Heart, Hands' approach, working holistically with our young people to develop the whole person. The 'Head' is the knowledge they build, their critical thought, the 'Heart' is the kindness and empathy they show in how they conduct themselves; their emotional intelligence, and the 'Hands' is the skills they develop and their actions that will help in their subjects and outside school.

Participating in competitions like this helps our students develop their knowledge about the natural world far from home. It shows us the important role our scientists play in studying and protecting the natural world for future generations, 'for all mankind'. The UK Polar Network's Antarctic Flag competition is a fantastic way of bringing this very important subject to life.

Well done to all our Year 8 students who participated!
