A team of six Sixth Form students attended Junior Tynwald on Friday, representing the school with confidence and maturity. The students involved were Darcey, Daisy, Fynlo, Jonas, Josh and Izzy.
The day included a guided tour of the Tynwald building, followed by the opportunity to question representatives from a range of government departments. Students explored topics including healthcare, the justice system, careers and opportunities for young people, why many young people do not return to the Isle of Man after university, support for first-time buyers on the housing ladder, and more.
Our students did us proud, contributing thoughtful supplementary questions to government departments throughout the sessions. Daisy successfully proposed a motion calling for more activities and opportunities for young people on the Isle of Man, delivering her speech with confidence. The motion was seconded by Darcey, who also spoke impressively. The motion was passed.
A special mention goes to Jonas, who was recognised for his outstanding contribution after asking an insightful question about safeguarding young people from criminal exploitation.
The students were also interviewed by the press and took part in a focus group discussing young people's views on political issues affecting the Isle of Man.
