Over the summer, after finishing their GCSE exams, a group of friends - the 'Rushen Ramblers' - took on the remarkable challenge of walking the entire 100-mile Raad ny Foillan coastal path around the Isle of Man to raise money for Mannin Cancer Help Centre. The charity provides invaluable support to individuals living with cancer, as well as their families and friends, offering a welcoming space where people can access advice, enjoy a coffee, and connect with others.
Thanks to their determination and commitment, the group has raised an incredible £5,247.
This week, they received an unexpected and very special reward for their efforts. Each received a letter from Lieutenant Governor Sir John Lorimer, congratulating them on their achievement and commitment to the local community. Enclosed with the letters were Governor's Coins, awarded in recognition of exceptional community service, outstanding achievement, or distinguished representation of the Isle of Man.
These young people are a wonderful example of our Head, Heart and Hands philosophy in action. Motivated by a cause close to their hearts, they showed initiative, determination and teamwork to complete a fantastic challenge while raising funds for a charity that supports so many people across our island community.
Congratulations to all of the Rushen Ramblers. This recognition is thoroughly deserved, and we are immensely proud of what they have achieved.
